This weekend sees one of our sister agency Managers, Clare Aston of the Next Step Fostering Thames Valley office, stride out on a 14 mile charity walk – from Moorfields Eye Hospital through London and finally to the London Eye – to help raise money to aid invaluable research into helping prevent blindness caused by Choroideremia.

Clare’s husband Paul was diagnosed with this degenerative eye condition 17 years ago and without pioneering research that has so far helped to slow the progression of the disease, Paul and many others like him could face losing their sight before their 55th birthday.

Research into this condition has started but currently there is no cure. Ground breaking techniques are being explored to not only halt the progression of this disease but also even restore lost sight.

“Raising money to help fund this pioneering research is vital. Paul’s progression has been significantly slowed by treatment, but if he could halt its progression completely – that is life changing! And the thought of actually being able to restore some vision, is incredible to even think about, “ Clare told us.

She continued, “Paul and I are really looking forward to doing our bit to say ‘Thank You’ to Moorfields and hopefully help raise awareness of the great work that they do. Everyone at the hospital is so passionate about their work and are always so helpful and generous with their time – to explain conditions, treatments and support us as we go through it.

If we can help raise awareness of this fantastic team and the great work that they do, and help raise money to bolster their research efforts, all the blisters will be worth it.”
